green onions

Green onions add such a delightful flavor and texture to simple salads or stir fries that I love keeping a package of them around. However, as there is only one of me and such packages hold quite a few stems, they quickly go bad before I can finish them all.

Enter a tera cota pot and a handful of dirt.

By nestling them into said dirt, they root and grow even after you cut them. While those I have tended previously have not lasted indefinitely, they last for months at a time rather than only a week or two, even continuing to grow when they are cut.

Besides...they look so lovely growing in the window.
