cobble stones, loose bricks, grates, pot holes

For a city that walks everywhere, the sidewalks are certainly more on the rough side. My oxfords are holding out beautifully though. I've only almost fallen once and it was right before someone else did too. And they were wearing tennis shoes. My shoes are vindicated.

I should also add that there are scores of professional women who walk through these streets every day in stiletto heals. I don't understand how, but I have never seen one fall or even teeter. I am in awe.
