Read through your primary sources once through, only making notes of lines that you think you're sure to use. This allows you to get a more holistic picture of the piece/novel/article which will aid you in forming a question or beginning to answer one. Then go back and fill in particular evidences of what you have found. You'll be much less likely to source mine this way.
