So, here we have Paul. He wrote many books in the bible. His travels are legendary. He spent his life and his death for Christ. Jail, prison, beatings, hunger, dangerous travel, abandonment. And here he is, writing to the Corinthians, talking of how he was with them "in weakness and in fear and much trembling..." How his "speech and [his] message were not in plausible words and wisdom..." This was his life! He went and proclaimed Christ's birth, life, death, and resurrection all over the known world...but he was trembling?! God can take such a man who He has doused with His strength, wisdom, and perseverance, and he's still nervous?
The next thing Paul says is that it is all "in demonstration of the Spirit and of power." That way, our faith can "not rest in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God" (vv 3-5). Paul trembled before them, fearful as he spoke and explained. He didn't speak eloquently or with polished words, he just spoke as anyone would and God used it for His glory.
Surely, if God has used such a man to do such work and he was still trembling after years of service, we also can do His will. He will bless our trembling, comfort our fears, and send us where we would never choose to go ourselves, multiplying our efforts a hundred fold. He can do more than we can imagine and believe me, I can imagine quite a lot.
